Cloud Anthem concert to premiere 3 original choral works with lyrics by Meghan Guidry

Juventas New Music Ensemble and the New Hampshire Master Chorale are performing *three* choral pieces Meghan wrote lyrics for in their season opener concert Cloud Anthem. The choral pieces that will be performed live are: “Every Iridescent Chip of Ice” (2008), “Roots & Wings” (2012) and the world premiere of “Worth the Wait” (2020). Read more about the meaning behind the songs and lyrics from New Hampshire Master Chorale's Richard Knox here.

Three pieces I've written lyrics for are being performed at this concert: "Every Iridescent Chip of Ice" (2008), "Roots & Wings" (2012), and "Worth the Wait" (2020). Each piece represents a distinct period in my growth as an artist, but all are connected by a shared sense of wonder, a shared desire to be "at home in," and a steadfast belief that there is beauty to be found everywhere.

  • "Every Iridescent Chip of Ice" (2008) was Meghan’s first-ever choral piece. It takes the winter solstice as its inspiration while drawing imagery from both the natural world and string theory to locate the origins of light in the depths of darkness.

  • "Roots & Wings" (2015) was originally performed by the Handel Society of Dartmouth College, and explores how we hold onto - and rebuild - home once we've left it. It also explores home not as a place, but as a network of relationships.

  • "Worth the Wait" (2020) takes as its lyrics an original poem Meghan wrote for Oliver and his husband's wedding. It traces how their individual lives braided them together even before they met, and celebrates the steps we unknowingly take along the way that lead us to our destinies.
